Day 9

To Venice With Wine Along the Way

Leaving Stresa/Grand Hotel Bristol
Duration: 00:00.26 sec.

Parting shot of our Grand Hotel Bristol

This was the view outside our hotel this morning.

Same location looking right

Arriving at our Wine-tasting location.
We will have a tour of their museum and how they
harvest and make their wines.

This is the place of our Wine Maker/Tasting/Museum

Our tour guide's name is Roberta.
We start here at the museum.

Next into the wine cellar...

...where wine is kept for up to 30 months. YIKES!

After the fermenting process is finished the wine
is stored in these wood barrels to bring out the best flavor.

This is a call-out photo for Sheila Kuranda.
If you look closely you'll find a small paper clip.
She hates those small paper clips.
When I saw this, I thought of her. 😀

A look from the wine tasting room.

Getting ready for the wine tasting.

Roberta pouring the classes of wine.
We would be tasting three different wines.

Of course, this caught my attention in the display
of children's toys. Even Italians like trains :)

Interesting date: 1885 Whoa!
That is a very old bottle of wine.

I took this picture to show to an art teacher at
Saint Charles East H.S. When I subbed there this
fall the class subject was pottery relief work.

I took this picture of Garda Lake which is the largest
lake in northern Italy. I took this picture is in
honor of my brother Bill's wife, Linda Garda Berg.

Here's a screen shot of
Lake Garda from Google
Maps

Finishing up the wine tasting portion of our trip.

Preparing to leave the campus.
Duration: 00:00.10 sec.

Along the motor way we see lots of vineyards.

Passed by a very bad accident - truck rollover at
kilometer mark 160.

Terrible accident traffic backup >30km
Duration: 00:00.15 sec.

Our lunch stop.
Pasta with mushroom sauce.

Map Time
We will drive from the shores of Lake Magggiore to
the island of  Venice.

Venice is on the Adriatic Sea where we will see
the low/high tides in action.

On our way to Venice (in Italy it's called Venezia)

Venezia is known as "The Floating Island"
I will explain this later...

Trains running to & from Venice
Duration: 00:00.04 sec.

Even a Bullet Train
Duration: 00:00.04 sec.

Since this is our last stop, we will be leaving the
bus behind. No more moto coach rides.

We will take this taxi over to our hotel where we
will be staying for two nights.

Our hotel is a refurbished Mill Factory
done by the Hilton Organization.

Jan in front of the main entrance.

I can't have Jan stand alone every time, so this time
I join her.

Looking across the water we see the edge of Venice.

More of Venice.

There was a special event happening on the top floor,
we were there just before they closed it down.
This is looking toward the main land.

This is on the other side looking toward Venice.

I took the previous photo from the top of the roof
you see here. Towards the right side.

Entering the Grand Canal Venice Italy
Duration: 00:00.18 sec.

The famous Rialto Bridge with shops along the pathway

Sunset & Gondolas over the Grand Canal
Duration: 00:00.17 sec.

Making our way to the square in front of
St. Mark Basilica.

In the center is St. Mark Basilica.

This is the tower we could see from the hotel.

Our Entertaining Musicians tonight
Duration: 00:00.11 sec.

I wished I would've video taped their rendition of
"When the Saint Go Marching In"

Our treats for tonight.

Our company for tonight.

Our musicians playing "Amore"
Duration: 00:00.31 sec.

St. Mark Square aka Piazza San Marco
Duration: 00:00.09 sec.

Battling Bands
Duration: 00:00.30 sec.

From the square looking at the front of St. Mark Basilica.

Before leaving Venice,
we took a walk and caught
this picturesque canal.

Note the leaning tower?
That is why this island called Venice is called the floating island - the land is always moving.

Looking forward to our final day of our trip tomorrow.

It seems so fast, yet so long since we started our journey.

Good night!
